Our weekend getaway

I'm riding the bus home right now.  Have I told you that I'm doing that?  We moved away from downtown and now, I ride the bus to work every day.  And it's weird.  In some ways, it allows me more time.  I have more time to read and write.  To just stare out the window and think.  However, on days like today, it feels like a huge pain in the ass.  I leave at 7 in the morning and I get to work at 8:15.  And when I have faculty meeting, I don't get to get on the bus until after 5, which means I don't get home until around 6.  That's a long day.  And when I'm standing around just waiting for the bus, it kind of feels like I'm trapped.  I just have to wait and wait until they come to me.

On a completely different subject, I've suddenly found myself roped into a new reform idea coming into our school.  I think they want me to be the person who sells it to the rest of the staff.  So today I had to set a professional boundary and give my opinions about some stuff.  Oh, how my introverted self cringes.  I so, so prefer to just stay in the background and give my two cents to the person next to me.

But onto the real subject of this post: this weekend, we got away.  The girls were staying with their mom so they could celebrate Thanksgiving with her.  So we decided to go on a little roadtrip to Jackson Hole.  I am at my best on a vacation.  I'm relaxed.  I'm loving.  None of my normal stresses can get to me.  I can simply wander around the streets of a new town with not a care in the world.

We took the puppy with us.  She was a very patient traveler, and we discovered that Jackson Hole is a very dog friendly town.  We could even take her into the shops with us.  (We only tried it once.  She's still too puppy to be very good at it.)  We stayed at a hotel that was nice but not too pricey.  It still feels weird to get a hotel room with a boy.  Like I'm doing something naughty.  It's fun.

We ate at The Lotus Cafe.  I would recommend it.  We went to the "Ripley's Believe it Or Not" Museum.  I'm not sure I'd recommend that.  It was amusing...in a hokey kind of way.  And I would recommend the store "Wild Hands."  Lots of cute, artisty stuff.

However you do it, I'd recommend getting the hell out of town.  I think it does a marriage good.

I love this, and absolutely agree.
